Hey, I’m Oulouy.

Work with me

Who am I?

I am Yao Dapre Georges Nicol known as Oulouy: a dance artist, choreographer, and cultural curator from Côte d’Ivoire and France, based in Barcelona. Through movement, I explore who we are, where we come from, and where we are going.

My body speaks the language of African street dances (Coupé Décalé, Ndombolo, Afrohouse, Azonto and more…) but also carries stories of identity, resistance, and joy. For me, dance is not just expression; it’s memory, it’s power, it’s connection.

I founded OYOFE, a cultural platform that has become home to many: a festival, a studio, a company, and most of all, a community. OYOFE is my way of giving back, creating bridges between Africa and its diaspora, between street and stage, between the past and the future.

My pieces — Black, Afrikan Party, Kong — are reflections of that journey. They are celebrations and confrontations at the same time. They question, they honor, and they dream.

I am part of a generation of artists who believe that African dances are not just entertainment! They are archives of wisdom, tools of resistance, and instruments of freedom.

BLACK

Black, is an invitation to reflect on violence and the emancipation of Blackness in contemporary society through a body that speaks, questions, and unsettles a body that is both wound and celebration at once. Drawing on recent historical event such as the murder of George Floyd, the piece rethinks the Black African body in the Western world through a choreographic language inspired by key dance styles from major cities across the African continent and the African diaspora in the United States. Premiered in 2020, Black has since been presented in over 50 performances internationally. The work has recently been selected by Aerowaves and by Dansnät Sverige, which will host the piece for a tour in Sweden in April 2026, further affirming its artistic and political relevance on the international stage.

AFRIKAN PARTY

Afrikan Party is a futuristic ode to Afrika, a powerful celebration of its diverse, rich, and ever-evolving cultures.
Set in the year 2090, the piece follows the story of a child born in the United States of Afrika, embarking on a journey through ancestral traditions, rituals, and contemporary expressions that connect past, present, and future. Through dance, music, and fashion, Afrikan Party becomes an ode to life and a manifesto of unity, highlighting the limitless possibilities that emerge when cultures stand together and new generations reclaim their narratives.

Afrikan Party by Supa Rich Kids / Oulouy received the Best Choreography of the Year Award at the 2024 Catalan Critics’ Awards for the Performing Arts. The work has also been officially included in the choreographic archive of the New York Public Library, recognizing its artistic and cultural significance.

“Black Choral”

From November 10 to 15 2025, Oulouy led an intensive creation process in Montreal with a group of selected teenagers, inviting them to collectively re-imagine and embody the piece Black through their own experiences and perspectives.

This collaborative work resulted in a powerful new iteration of the project, which was presented publicly as part of the La Marche Courte Festival in Montreal. The initiative highlighted Oulouy’s ongoing commitment to artistic transmission, youth empowerment, and the creation of spaces where new generations actively engage with contemporary performance and cultural memory.

“Oyofe Dance Company”

On September 20, 2025, the OYOFE Dance Company, led by Oulouy, premiered its first creation, Afro Dance, at the HOP Festival in Barcelona. The company is composed of dancers primarily trained in African street dance under Oulouy’s direction. Through OYOFE Dance Company, the ambition is to push the boundaries of African street dance, expanding its vocabulary and bringing its narratives onto contemporary stages through a renewed, forward-looking artistic language.
